• Pirc with Synchronet

From Mit@VERT/OMGBBS to All on Tue May 23 11:47:00 2006
I run a irc network along with my synch bbs, on seperate sister domains. I've always wanted someway to have a irc bot display stats about the bbs. Say if a new user signed up, someone posted something new on the forums, a new file
was added to the library or even when someone logs in to the board.

I stumbled apon this today: http://www.jibble.org/pircbot.php

Looks like someone already had a simular idea. I've seen this used for forums on a website. When ever someone posts a new topic or replies to an existing one. It notifies the set IRC Channel about that post.

Being the programming newbie, i have the slightest clue about Java. Anyone have any exp with this and making some type of notification system with this type of code?

    TIA,

    /miT

That's probably over-kill. You don't actually need a 'bot' if you just want to send messages to a channel. See exec/ircmsg.js for an example. This script is how "cvs commit" messages are automatically posted in the #synchronet channel on irc.synchro.net.

You could catch Cyan on #Synchronet at irc.synchro.net... he's written a bot in JavaScript that runs from his BBS iirc.

I run a linux based IRCD on servers that i pay for on a monthyl basis. I am not using the built in IRCD that comes with synchronet. Would that have any effect on this?

    Thanks again for your input,

I don't belive so... but you'd need to ask Cyan of course.
