Creators of mastadon actually looked at Twitter, saw a burning dumpster and decided "yeah we are going to copy every aspect of this". Same for blusky.

And same for Meta with Threads.

    Dont forget BlueSky.

We have no-less than two new Twitters for liberals that rage quited Twitter cuz of Elon, one for "tech-savvy" and one for non.

    both suck, even for them.

Honest question from someone in whose country facebook's/meta's products never were popular to begin with : People actually used Threads? i thought it was completly stillborn platform.

I am under the impression that there are people in the states who try to
use it. Not sure how useful it is, though. Then again, I am to the point where I am not sure that any of the social media platforms are "useful."

Used? It seems there are people who currently do use it. I don't use Threads, but Facebook tells me some of my friends use Threads.

Not for anything other than advertising. Everyone loves ads.

They created it so they could take Twitter out of the market. They failed. It was amusing to watch because they poured so much money into it without having a clear idea of what they were doing.

To be honest, its launch followed the same pattern of a bad live service game. It got launched with a lot of marketing and money thrown behind it and they paid a lot of popular people on other platforms to open Threads accounts. There was significant activity at the begining but in less than a year everybody was back at their regular places.

It was hillarious because you could see people endorsing it for obviously political reasons, telling everybody that the cool people was not on Twitter anymore and that this or that popular person had already moved to threads. Fast forward a couple of mounths, the popular people had collected their checks already and returned to their regular platforms, and their audiences with them.

it's basically now just a companion to instagram which a few people use.

i've never liked twitter but i pop on it sometimes. that sort of stuff rubs
me the wrong way, i'm not sure why. maybe i dont like microblogging.

My understanding is that the guys behind Mastodon created it because they regarded Tweeter as too permissive regarding "nazies" back then, therefore th though an alternative platform was needed.

Interesting, considering that Musk had not taken over Twitter yet back
    then.

That should tell you everything you need to know about the people who had the idea, actually.

No, we just had to deal with Russian bots on twitter influencing a US
    election.
