Again?
If I remember right, lastpass was hacked last september. Good think I deleted my lastpass account and moved to bitwarden.
... keypass is good as well.
someone tried to get into my cashapp and i got sent a login code.

Wife gets texted a Paypal 2FA security code which is odd because she doesn't have a Paypal account. There's some new method that "hackers" are using to send text alerts, the texts look like their are coming via a website instead of a phone number. It's the strangest thing, and just totally random. It's hard to reassure people who don't know that "we're OK, I'm monitoring stuff..."
After my mother got gift card scammed it's turned into a every other day phone call to make sure she hasn't gotten/taken any weird phone calls. She's finally able to accept that unless a name pops up on her received calls that it's not worth picking up.

one video has him talking to the most worse one. i'm not sure which one it is, but they are the most hateful people and threaten to rape your family and your mother. ---

I'm pretty sure that I got my skeptical nature from my mom. She's 88,
and
I have little fear of her getting phone-scammed. If she's even slightly unsure about a phonecall, she'll call and ask me about it.
Mostly though, she just ignores any number she doesn't recognize.

A bunch of the youtube anti-scammers set up this "anti-scam" callcenter for a week and filmed it. Jim Browning was there, but always wore a mask to hide his identity. Honestly, I'd probably hide my identity too if I was costing people hundreds of thousands of dollars or more. People kill over that shit.

When I get those messages it generally turns out to be a crypto investment scam where they let you "win" a couple hundred on an exchange they use and when you deposit more hopping for a bigger pay out they just clean you out and cut contact. It is a shame that people fall for that.

I watch a few of those, they are actually getting more organized than the scammers. It's funny as shit when they bring up their CCTVs. It's scary as hell when you ALMOST believe that these "people" actually think what they are doing is on the up and up.
Oh well. the downfall of civ will be televised.

What the hell you guys talking about?
Youtube videos where people strike back at the scammers over in India. These people pretend to be old people who pretend to go along with the scammers, and the scammers ask for access to their computer to "fix" their problems. But when they do, the scam baiters actually go in and cause problems for the scammers. Usually deleting their files, or downloading them and calling the victims to let them know that they've been scammed.
Either way it's entertaining for us to see those guys get scammed themselves!
my mom got a virus that locked out everything.
it asked her to put her credit card number in to install antivirus to remove it. she did it. i was like wtf, that was a scam. you need to get a
new credit card number. of course she didn't.
Yeah, I went through a gift card scam with my mom, she lost about $2,500 to scammers on 2 different occasions. I was so upset, but I had to make sure to direct my anger where it was deserved. My mom felt so bad and I felt bad that it happened. Her Mac had some weird Java program that kept trying to fire off. thankfully it didn't do anything, and eventually I figured out where the bugger lived and removed it (Mac's, what can you do?).
hey, lastpass was compromised. they said passwords were encrypted
but they could get some user info.
someone tried to get into my cashapp and i got sent a login code.

What.. putting passwords all in one place hosted by companies with unknown data practices isn't a good idea? who would have thought ;)
Hopefully nobody runs in to issues because of this.
i guess the nigerian prince scam still gets 700k a year. they also still do the thing where they get the person to meet them in an airport and
they kidnap them and get a ransom.
I went out on a few dates with a Russian girl in Dubai and eventually she told me about her job - she would travel to Indonesia and other places to find people to come to Dubai to work on construction projects. She would take their passports while inprocessing in Dubai and then hold the passports for like years while the workers paid off their "debt" that they incurred signing on to the project. It is basically human slavery. Super fucked up.

There is still a lot of slavery in the world today. We don't consider it as slavery because it looks a bit different, but it is slavery neverthelss.
The more things change, the more they stay the same...

slavery is always the end game for people of power. having control over another person is the ultimate prize for them.
sex drugs, buying cars and houses isnt the same.

Am I too old-school? I use keepass with a strong password and
sync the password file to a personal cloud account? Works on
multiple PCs and my phone, and it's free.

BitWarden is free and open source (with a .89+ cent a month paid
tier) and available for both windows and linux. Can be self or
cloud hosted. So far they have been a reputable company. They
have passed security audits for far.
Is 'KeePass' the one to go with? Recommendations appreciated, and it
needs to run on Linux.

Keepass and close derivates are fine for Linux desktops.
If you prefer something CLI oriented, there is pass, also known
as password-store.

It works for me, and it has a ton of plugins. I use one that will auto-launch Remote Desktop or Putty under Windows, I'm sure
there's similar functionality for Linux.
I end up using it more like a configuration DB, putting notes
into Keepass and using it to launch terminal instances.
Then it said it would fuck my mother, etc etc so i knew it was probably one of those indian scammers in that
one infamous city.

Yep, Love that guy. Sounds like it's almost his profession these days. Some of those videos are quite amazing. Honestly I wish his kind of "white hat" hacking was taught more in colleges. Had a friend who was just out of high school and went right into computer security. Wanted to be a white hat hacker. He used to bring in some weird backdoor stuff that he was learning (hacking his home network). It was fascinating.

i dont think it's hacking. i just think he has a version of anydesk that reverses the connection. sometimes he
says that people have to approve it.
so maybe it's not even a modified version.
i like that guy that targets the package stealers too. i would just have it shoot out loads of fart spray and
dye.
