hey what are you guys doing this summer?

i've been staying home so much it's hard to get back into the swing of things. i've just been working and sleeping. i have been doing a side job to try to offset the prices going up. not sure it's working.

hey what are you guys doing this summer?

Nothing too exciting. A few small hobbies, trying a few new soup recipes, and generally trying to get out and
see friends more often. It seems like everyone's unclenching after the past few years, so people are more amenable to
    hanging out.

Other than that, the wife and I are looking at moving, which will be a whole thing if it works out.

As a side note, thanks for starting this! It's always nice to talk about something trivial amidst the usual life-
or-death arguing that goes on here.

That's definitely a huge part of it. So many people have had routines, and suddenly learned they can just say no.

I am doing what I always do, which is working and seling wares and playing with the horses. I also got some stuff at home repaired.

Then I found a portable air conditioning unit on offer. I am not a fan of these things, but it was too cheap to pass by. The dogs love it.

Is yours one of those penguin styled units, with a single pipe that goes out of the
    window?

Mine happens to be one of those. As I said, I am not a fan of the design. It is a bit
inefficient. HOwever for the three days per year I am gonna use it I can't justify
    purchasing anything more expensive :-)

We have several of those things at work to cool some equipment closets. They work adequately, but don't seem to last more than a few years... I assume that's because of the larger workload than average. These closets are all internal, though, and our meager K-12 budget precludes the only alternative, which would be to install RTUs.

maybe you have an issue with yours. mine works great.

To be honest, if I were to use one of these things to cool down equipment, I'd think
of using split units at the very very least.

Penguins are not designed to work continuously.

Oh, I didn t say mine was inneffective. I said it is an inefficient design. Different
    thing.

Models with a single pipe typically suck ait from the room you are trying to cool down
in order to feed it to the condenser. Then that air goes out through the exhaust pipe.

It gets the job done but it throws a couple Watts away that could be saved using more
    efficient designs.

that's how a car AC works and it works fine.

As I mentioned, the only alternative is no cooling at all. Such is the budget of a public school district.
