Question to all you reloaders out there (as I'm still somewhat of a
novice). Regarding the use of .45 caliber expander dies. I recently was given a set of .45 ACP reloading dies, but upon examination, I find that
the expander plug is missing from the expander die. Not being one to look
a gift horse in the mouth, I accepted the set, as the decapping and seating dies are fine.
Here's my question. Given that .45 ACP and .45 LC are the same diameter, has anyone out there used the expander die from a .45 LC die set to expand the mouth of .45 ACP cases? If so, what kind of luck did you have?
I realize I can get expander dies for about $12 mail-order/web purchase,
but wanted to load up some rounds this weekend so I figured I might give this a shot. The only thing I can imagine going wrong is if the pilot portion of the plug bottoms out in the case prior to expansion at the
mouth.
Anyway, just thought I would put that out there for discussion, maybe stir up some activity in the forum...
