also, these media reports seem to give these other future shooters ideas.

I sort of feel like our media does not do enough to make the children who commit these crimes sound like criminals. The adults, maybe, but not the children. Just this week, after the Fla shooting, we've had all sorts of
hoax calls closing down schools in KY and, in every case but one, the perpetrators were kids.

Excuses given by parents (and administrators, in some cases) were that the
kids did not realize how serious it is to threaten people with being shot,
or that they didn't not realize how traumatic it would be to use that
method to get school cancelled, etc.

If these kids had someone to look up to other than fellow school shooters,
or the bullies on reality TV, I think things might be different.
Meanwhile, their parents don't pay them enough attention, either. Like DM pointed out, they just want to pop pills in their mouths and then not have
to pay them much mind otherwise.

My parents were not overly-involved, but they were enough to be a little annoying at the time. But I look back now and realize it was probably a
good thing. They had 5 kids and none of us would have considered doing anything like this... we caused problems, like any other kids, but they
never had to worry about us shooting a school up, blowing it up, or running over a bunch of classmates (well, not on purpose!).

Yeah, I was watching something about the tide pod challenge a few weeks
ago, when it was all the rage in the media. One thing they mentioned was
that, in the past, younger people tended to value things like kindness, intelligence, etc., but now they are supposedly more likely to value fame
    over anything else.

The person reporting this also mentioned that they cannot enjoy that bit of "youtube fame" if consuming the pods kills them.

I think they want the fame, no matter what, without thinking about any consequences.

Yeah, when I was in my early twenties there was a wave of youth activism about this or that. Seems like adults back then were smart enough to listen but
take everything said with a grain of salt and not just hand us the reins.

I worry that the younger adults these days are not that smart. The
    teenagers sure as Hell aren't.

It has to do with responsibility and fathers present. these folks have seen little of both and do not act like adults. When reality hits them, they act like they were conditioned to. They think Mom will always be there hence the reason why they consume Tide Pods, drugs, ect. Why they engage in damaging behaviour and don't plan for the future. Even as an old conditioned folk, i still saw my liberal friends in High School and they seemed to have more fun doing stupid things. This loss of the social fabric might also lead people act like morons instead of adults like they should.

I cannot argue with any of that. I think a lot of them grow up and begin substituting the government for their mommies. They get upset when the
rest of us don't want the government as a parent.

People think that freedom is freedom to do as you please, but they forget that for there to be freedom, there has to be resposibility. People are told to have fun instead of work hard, people are told to live in the now, instead of plan for the future. This goes hand in hand with weapons since you have to be resposable to own and use a weapon due to its power and kill opportunities.

Again, I cannot see anything to disagree with here. Freedom without responsibility is anarchy.
