Well they look like crap on my board. I post them on the Web they look great. I post them on other boards they look fine. I post them on my board there mashed up. I post them on other Synchronet boards and there mashed up. There's no method to this maddness and it really pisses me off! Out of respect for Dovenet I will stop posting them. There are plenty of other nets that welcome ansi and my screens render nicely. For whatever reason Dovenet and Synchronet is not the place for ansi art. I'll find a "work around".

IMO it's not about our message scan or what your ads look like.. If you're posting your BBS ad once a day, then when people list the BBS ads sub-board, your ad will appear in there a lot more than the other ads. It's kinda like spam. It's good to leave some room for other peoples' ads to be noticeable too.

I'm pretty sure it's been explained to you that there was a bug with word-wrap when viewing ANSI messages. That bug was fixed, but you're still running an older build:

The problem isn't your posting of the ANSIs, it's in the *viewing* of them. And if you update your version of Synchronet, like I already suggested, that problem goes away.

ain't no kinda about it... too many are spam... that is/was the problem in other message networks where folks have a bot to post every day... there's not that many users and most of us are operators so we see most everything all the time...

it is kinda like ads on TV... the more i see an ad being shoved in my face, the less likely i am to visit that business...

I simply used the rules of the Fidonet echos as a rough guide. I think the OTHERNETS echo says no more than 3x/weel for example. I set my bot that posts there to twice per week, which seems to be on a par with most peoples' bots.

Going by the standards in other nets, I'd say 1 or 2 times/week for an ad would be appropriate.

As a potential new user to somebody's BBS, if I see ads posted
that frequently, I would purposely *NOT* call that BBS. One of
the reasons to use BBSes is to AVOID the saturation of spam that
covers the internet. A BBS that contributes to spam gets avoided.

I would have posted some advice on those ANSI screens if I had some more knowledge on that and some useful advice. But as far as not offering any solutions, I believe several people did post about a bug that was fixed. And DM posted instructions on how to upload ANSIs.

you should post it on vert. i just have some batchfile that uses smbutil

smbutil would have probably been simpler. My JavaScript script reads my ad and has a list of sub-boards to post the ad in (by internal sub-board code).

... and there's exec/postmsg.js (but only posts to one sub per invocation).
